Breast cancer is the most common oncological disease in women.
Thanks to today’s openness and numerous campaigns, more is being said and written about this diagnosis. Various advice and recommendations on how women can care for their breasts are being published. Women are learning to think preventively and realize that a key factor for the treatment and cure of breast cancer is its early detection. It is possible to fully recover from breast cancer, or to carefully treat and monitor the disease for many years while maintaining a high quality of life. Therefore, compared to other diseases, breast cancer is not a fatal (terminal) disease without a future.
So what are the options for breast cancer prevention? What is important to know?
- Properly performed self-examination once a month
- USG (ultrasound)
- MG (mammography)
By combining all available examination methods, the probability of successful early detection is multiplied.
Every woman from the age of 40 is entitled to a preventive screening mammography examination covered by health insurance every two years. For women in this age group, mammography is the priority diagnostic method, and sonography is an additional examination method.
MG examinations are not performed on pregnant and breastfeeding women; in such cases, it can be replaced by a USG examination.
For younger women (under 40) who do not have signs of breast disease but have personal or family risk factors, or simply want to be sure they are healthy, a preventive ultrasound examination can be performed for a fee according to the current price list.
We also perform USG examinations of the breasts for any clinical complaints without a referral and without unnecessary waiting.
Consultation with a specialist and the proposed examination procedure leads to the detection of early stages of tumor disease and thus to reducing breast cancer mortality.
Why is USG examination not a “useless examination”?
Ultrasound (sonographic) examination of the breasts is a fast, safe, and painless method that allows detailed imaging of breast tissue. It does not use X-ray radiation. During the examination, we assess the character of the gland, evaluate possible focal changes in the gland tissue, examine lymph nodes, focus on subjective complaints, and if necessary, plan further examination with another modality. We will explain the principle of self-examination and recommend a suitable regular diagnostic regimen.
It is suitable for women who:
- are under 40 years old and need a basic imaging examination
- do not perform self-examinations for individual subjective reasons
- regularly perform self-examinations and want to confirm that their breasts are in order
- regularly perform self-examinations and currently have subjective complaints, pain, palpable findings, or nipple discharge
- are interested in preventive USG examination outside the regular screening MG interval
- need supplementary sonography after mammography for a less clear gland
- have a more intensive monitoring regime due to a positive family history
- want to check the quality of implants after augmentation
